Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is the commonest metabolic abnormality in the world. It has been estimated that more than 33 million people in India are affected by diabetes. Patients with type- II diabetes have 2 - 4 times higher risk of experiencing cardiovascular disease than adults without diabetes. Diabetic dyslipidemia consists of elevated LDL, Triglycerides and decreased levels of HDL. Recent data suggests that measurement of Non–HDL Cholesterol level (Total Cholesterol minus HDL) could be more representative of all atherogenicapolipoprotein (Apo) B containing lipoproteins. Although Apo-B can be assessed directly, measurement of Non-HDL can be considered as a surrogate marker for Apo B in routine clinical practice. Also LDL to HDL ratio &
