Abstract

The corrosion inhibitive performance of naturally occurring gum exudates of Araucaria columnaris (AC) and its synergistic effect with halides and metal cations on mild steel in 1 M HSO has been studied using weight loss and electrochemical methods. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in concentration and decrease with temperature. The adsorption of AC gum on the mild steel obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that AC gum acting as mixed type of inhibitor. The formation of protective layer on mild steel surface is confirmed by SEM analysis.
